Abstract
Substructuring techniques have obtained excellent results in the solution of very large problems in structural and mechanical analysis. However, this technique is hardly known in hydraulic network analysis where, nevertheless, its possibilities are great due to a hydraulic network’s non linear behaviour. Basically, substructuring involves synthesizing the behaviour of a part of the systems in a small equation set that simulates the interaction with the remaining network through the boundary nodes. Substructuring means saving core requirements and computing time when updating is not necessary. This is of great importance in applications like optimization of monitoring procedures or real-time simulations. In this paper we give the basis for the implementation of the substructuring techniques in network analysis programs based on nodal formulation, making use of static condensation mechanisms, and we illustrate them with an example. Also we comment on guides for building a data base including superelements, and we refer to the hydraulic network analysis which exploit the possibilities offered by the new technique.
